Starcraft Reaper

Warning: This build is not for the faint of heart. It requires a ton of caps, or luck, for the rare items and mutations needed to use it effectively.

The Reaper is a unit from Starcraft that uses a Jetpack to easily traverse the battlefield flying over cliffs, uses close-range weapons(pistols, but a shotgun in our case) and explosives(timed C4, but we will use grenades and explosive shotguns). This build is primarily focused around these principles, but also includes many other perks and mutations to ensure you survive better out in the wasteland.

Using the Class Freak perk card opens up a ton of useful mutations to work on obtaining which include: Bird Bones, Electrically Charged, Grounded, Healing Factor, Marsupial, Scaly Skin, Speed Demon, and Unstable Isotope. An important thing to understand is Class Freak *** removes 75% of a mutations negative effects so, for the most part, there is a little negative effect, but it doesn’t effect perk card assignments just the base stats of your character in that category. The Chameleon mutation can also be usable if you collect the weightless gear to accompany it. Weightless is preferred for this build to save additional carrying weight and not having to be naked to utilize the Chameleon mutation outside of the PA. Because this builds PA focused saving weight on under armor or not bringing any is important.

Because you will be solely depending on your power armors stats for defense and it can be somewhat lacking vs what is offered from normal armor with legendarily effects, we must use perks that help us cope. For this, I chose Dodgy***, Born Survivor ***, and Lifegiver ***. Dodgy reduces the incoming damage costing AP which we have tons, Born Survivor will automatically use a Stimpack if you fall below 40%HP and Field Surgeon to increase the speed of the healing.

Next obtaining the Explosive Shotgun. There are many ways it can be done, but it’s hard solely depending on luck to find one, so be prepared to spend a ton of caps from somebody selling. Preferably you will want 2-shot explosive Shotguns either pump or combat to maximize damage output for this build. My 2-shot explosive combat shotgun does 1122 DMG base and my pump does 1184 DMG base with these perks and mutations(I’ve heard this DMG is per pellet, not just the shell, so the closer you get landing more pellets, the higher the DMG will be). Most of the time enemies and players die after 1-2 hits hit from close-medium distance. (With the next patch the DMG from 2-shots might be reduced. I will update the DMG after)

The final hard part of the build would be obtaining the jetpack. This can be found for the X-01 randomly from the Enclave Armory Vendor. Some also find plans from the Queen to build and might make you one if you can obtain all the required parts. I currently use a T51-B set with Targeting HUD, Bright Headlamp for the helmet, Jetpack for the torso and Overdrive Servos for the legs. The arms can be difficult finding a useful mod because most cater to using unarmed which seems pointless in PA.
