Conventional wisdom dictates that pistol builds are not viable. Well, as a lover of pistols in FO4 and 76, that’s only half true. Yes, you won’t be doing the crazy damage of many other builds, but when soloing the wasteland, you are a force to be reckoned with. With this built, I am going through Wes Tek using an average of ONE stimpack per two runs without power armor and I don’t even have the best weapons for the build.
Also, in the SB fight I keep an eye out for trash and keep the add population down. Targeting heads, I can tear through 3-4 scorched per clip on my Zealot’s Exploding 10mm. W/ Grim Reaper’s Sprint and a 10-gallon bucket full of action points I can keep the trash off the heavy hitters, allowing them to take out the Queen.
Building this, you have six free levels (and perk packs) to pick up Gunsmith and other crafting perks to supplement. If you aren’t into mutations, then add Critical Savvy and Quick Hands. Needless to say you will also need some alternatives to Lone Wanderer for grouping up.
Relevant Mutations: Adrenal Reaction, Bird Bones, Eagle Eyes, Healing Factor, Herd Mentality, Marsupial, Scaly Skin, Speed Demon.
Best Legendary Weapon Effects: Instigating, +1 Agility, -VATS cost, +Fire Rate, Quad, Furious, Two-Shot, Explosive, Executioner’s, Faster Reload. As a caveat, if you can find the Holy Grail of pistols for this build, it would be an Instigating Western Revolver w/ Exploding and -VATS Cost.
Best Legendary Armor Effects: Vanguard’s, +AP Refresh, + Agility/Perception/Luck, and at least one piece of Chameleon.
Under armor: Here’s the bad news. The raider under armors are by far the best, and also the most difficult to get the high level plans for, but the +Perception/Agility is ideal.
Tactics: Approach a bunch of bad guys and throw a MIRV grenade into their midst, then target one of them w/ VATS in the head, shoot it dead and let Gun Fu and hopefully Grim Reaper’s Sprint do the rest, using your crits on anything over 33% health. I can reduce the population of a gang of charging ghouls to zero before they even get close to me more often than not, more with the right food/drink buffs. Big nasty’s can get tricky, but using Marsupial to get the high ground makes this easier.
This build is not for everyone. It takes a cautious approach and patience, but I’ve had a lot of fun with it.
